Randy sent me this picture but told me not to say he caught this Fat OIO in Waikiki - oops! Sorry Randy.
Saturday we went a Glass Bottom Boat ride in Kaneohe Bay. It was hosted by the Bishop Museum and they provided 2 narrators to explain the history of the bay and current facts. Weather was great and the ride was smooth. We went around the bay and stopped at various points to feed the fish or look at turtles.
In the cabin ready to go, they're explaining how safe the boat is but there is a life jacket for everyone 'just in case'.
Looking thru the glass, reef and fish were visible but did not photograph well.
Stopping to feed the fish.
Mostly Mamo.
Sitting on the roof - 'too bright' she said.
Coconut Island - aka Gilligan's Island.
Look 'um - oama school.
No surf for me today - I just read Jonny's report of Chuns/Pids - small but fun. Any report from town?
Yesterday was FUN. Big Mahalo to Dean, Ryan, Doug and the other Fire crew for an awesome day of golf. The course was in top shape, they provided good food before AND after our round, PLUS everyone went home with a prize. That's cool! The heat was on in Ewa, felt like 100 degrees in the shade and the paspalum grass took it's toll on some but the bottom line is: we had fun and it's better than working.
First hole, ready to go!
Sandbagger?
Grip and Rip!
Just like Tiger!
There are helpful signs around the course - read the annotations.
Waves: 1 - 2 feet windswell
Wind: None
Nice and glassy but terrible waves. I thought was going be like yesterday. Darn! A bad morning for surf but a good day for Golf! We're off to 'rip it' at Coral Creek today.
Waves: 1 - 3 feet
Wind: Light offshore
Waves were a little better than yesterday with way better winds - I didn't want to come in.
Wow!!! 2 days in a row - Blane and Austin were out again, this time with Estee. Blane is so cool he was surfing 1st holes most of the time to avoid the crowd.
Waves: 1 - 3 feet
Wind: Light to gusty
Crowd: Mellow
Way better than yesterday. Bigger with good direction, more west making for longer rights and better inside lefts. The winds bounced from nice to super strong.
Today was a celebrity day and of all days I left my camera in the car - what a bummer. Anyway, first we had Blane and Austin of Paddle Surf Hawaii - it's always cool to surf with the best SUP shaper in the world. Then we had Titus Kinimaka from Kauai who is in town for the Duke's Ocean Fest in Waikiki.
Where's the waves? I was hoping for some decent surf for my return from Lanai, instead we got indecent surf - small, windy and junk.
Lanai was awesome, beautiful, fun and relaxing - I wish I could go every month.
First of all our departure was very smooth, our flight however was like riding a roller-coaster. The strong winds created lots of turbulance for most of the flight, so much turbluance that there was NO beverage service. That's ok because Dawn REALLY enjoyed the bumpy ride, but I don't think the rest of the passengers did.
So far I think I gained 5 pounds - the food is GREAT!!! We've been just taking it easy cruising around the lodge, pool and town. Last night was Lanai City Grille, this morning was Blue Ginger. Tomorrow we'll be going to Manele Bay and Dawn will be going horse back riding.
How's the surf?
We're off to Lanai this morning, this time with Grandma and Grandpa too. Let's hope our departure will be smoother than our last trip. We'll be staying at the Koele Lodge again since we liked it so much last time. I hope you guys get some waves while I'm gone - I'm sure you'll all catch plenty for me.
To the SO crew: Since there's a contest this weekend please feel free to surf at Concessions - haha. You're welcome to surf Courts just check-in with Leighton first and show him your pass.
I'll be monitoring the action remotely from Lanai - I'll be back surfing on Tuesday.
