What a surprise, we had some good waves today - a little windy but some head high east bowls with walls. 10 times better than yesterday. I wasn't lonely today.
I got the call from Wet Feet yesterday and picked up my paddle yesterday afternoon. The paddle feels good.
Here's the March movie - as you know it was a slow month for waves. Hopefully next month will be better.
Mr. Lonely. That's how I felt this morning - nobody parked and nobody at Courts. I was happy to see Jay from SO paddling over. The waves were junk - I had maybe three decent waves then I went in.
Since nobody was there this morning I have a need to share with everyone that my 'newly acquired' wetsuit is great. It's really thin (maybe .5 mil) but I think it's got titanium inside and very warm.
When I got to my desk my co-worker Roger bought me breakfast from Local Boy's Cafe - you gotta check this out. FIVE meats, TWO eggs over fried rice - that's a killer - how will I eat lunch now?
Wouldn't you know it, yesterday was good and today was not-so-good. Where were the nice walls I saw from my office window yesterday morning? That's ok was still fun because it wasn't crowded at all.
After surf we were hyped to check out the Ocean Expo at the Blaisdell Center. Our plans were interrupted by a minor detail - no electricity! It seems a large area of Honolulu was without power this morning. We hung around for a little while but I was hungry so we went to go eat lunch at La Pizza Rina. I was craving a Super Sub ever since Bev was talking about the place. I ordered an Antipasto Salad, Super Sub and Mini Pizza - all three were GREAT! The salad dressing is fantastic! Everyone enjoyed their lunch - check it out.
After the grinds we went back to the Ocean Expo. Overall the Expo was cool but there was nothing that made me go 'WOW!'. The best thing I got was a free 'Just Surf' sticker.
I didn't surf today because I had to go to work early. I did stop by the beach before going to work.
Good thing I went to check the surf - Hans brought down some manapua, pork hash, half moon and ma tai sui (my favorite) from Char Hung Sut - Thanks Hans!!!
The surf looked junk this morning - but looking out the window from work, it looks good.
Guess what? The winds calmed down and were straight offshore, the waves were easy head high and firing, the crowd was literally a few guys out. Where were the Wednesday gang?
Summary: Down from yesterday. Some wind-swell but smaller - head high and bumpy.
I like Mondays - started out as a blustery morning, but wind is good sometimes.
Over-head east bowls with just a few guys out.
Well it's been over 1 month since my paddle broke and Wet Feet has been saying it 'should be here next week' for a few weeks now. Today I found out Quick Blade didn't even fix it yet. Wet Feet called to break the news and to confirm that I wanted the narrow carbon blade(I had the wide fiberglass blade) - the good news is that they'll give me the carbon blade for free(normally $50 more) - I was willing to pay extra for the carbon blade but being that it's taking so long it's the least they could do. Let's see if I ever get my paddle back, will it be glued the right way, will it be the right size - stay tuned for more of 'As the Paddle breaks'.
You can put money down - my next paddle will be a Kialoa!
I enjoyed today - mostly wind-swell waves but there were more waves than yesterday and the waves were lining up good.
'Breakfast on the beach' was definitely a success, the chefs declined any donations saying it's from the heart. The fried rice was a 'winnah' and went perfectly with the little smokies and my easy-over eggs. Mahalo to all who contributed. When is the next one?
Makino was great - The birthday boy and girl had fun, I just stuffed myself with Sushi, Crab and Butterfish and Dawn had a great time with Kai and Maika.
Today is my mother's birthday 3-2-1 easy to remember. Happy Birthday Mom! Tonight we're going to Makino to celebrate her birthday and Kyle's father's birthday. Hoo-hoo sushi and crab!!!!
Surf was a little smaller - mostly 2 footers with the rare 3 footer. It was good for a while until the winds blew it out!
BREAKFAST ON THE BEACH!!!! Darek has announced that they will be cooking and serving breakfast tomorrow morning at Courts - come one, come all, come and get it. Darek makes a killer fried rice. They will be asking a small donation to go towards the annual Courts Christmas Fund. The SO crew can paddle preskool to pick up your order and paddle it back. Like Outback has curbside take-away, we have beachside take-away.
