HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I was going to lie and tell you that the surf was still tiny, but I want to end the year honest and clean. We had some GOOD waves this morning, nice head high west bowls with perfect offshore winds.
Here's Mike on a nice bowl - one of the smaller ones.
Tony was 'on it' catching some nice waves - check this wall setting up.
Leighton was catching some nice inside bowls.
Of all days I had to be in the office by 8am and of all days I brought my 11-0 Hulakai - I wish I could have stayed out longer, but was satisfied with catching a few good waves on the Big Board. Here's a few more shots.
I made it into the office by 8am, but wanted to get some fish for our New Years Lunch - so off to Don Quiote. They had lots of nice looking fish and poke. I got some Chu Toro for sashimi and some poke too.
Good morning Gang! No surprise - it's still tiny, not only tiny but tiny with high tide - we were surfing on the 'sidewalk' at Courts, I found a few fun waves. Today first holes wasn't even breaking, Concessions was hardly breaking. Grent and Errol paddled out to Courts, so you know Concessions was bad.
Earlier 'Bonga' and Thomas paddled past us - they're both getting good FAST. Where was the SUPrman?
Check this video out.
This is really getting boring, ANOTHER small day of surf. I wish there was something more exciting to report but 'it is what it is'.
I am however STILL HAPPY just to get in the water and catch a few waves. Today we surfed at First Holes where there were some nice little peaks. Tatsu did very well SUPing for the second time.
CT passed thru for a visit on the demo TB 9-6.
Kado came thru too paddling backwards, he likes to see where he's been.
Maybe we gotta go back to fishing like Eddie Pang - Hanapaa'.
This is a day late but how you going to post when you have no power? I'm just grateful we didn't lose power on Christmas Eve to Christmas Day - now that would have been worse. We finally got power about 2pm. How was your Blackout?
Here's my house in the morning.
Who's going to let a little power outage stop you from going to the beach? I just fired up my butane stove to make my coffee and I'm off. At least the sunrise was nice.
We made friends with Tatsu last year when he was visiting from Germany. He's back for another visit. He surfs pretty good for a guy who surfs once a year.
My new camera is cool.
Leighton came down with Aily to take a 'dip'.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas, Santa did stop by Niu Valley and left us with a lot of goodies. Dawn was so cute when she saw all the gifts Santa brought, she kept saying 'Wow, that's what I wanted!'. As a parent, I think that means 'mission accomplished'.
Later we pigged-out at Uncle Crow's house in Kaneohe - they always put out a great spread and always have the BEST Sashimi and Poke. This year he had a Tripe Poke - first time a had that - was a winner! I made for the first time Chicken Enchiladas with Fresh Salsa - I thought it was pretty good.
Christmas Morning Uncle Crow Tripe Poke Chicken Enchiladas Maika and Kai
My cousin Norman brought this awesome Praline Cake from the Cake Works - it was light and rich all at the same time. Imagine a slice of that with Haagen Daz ice cream - hooo-hooo!!!
This morning I went down late, about 8:30am, everyone was gone. I went out SUP Courts to Concessions and back. Nice to get some waves and some sun. I wanted to test my new waterproof camera. It seemed to work well and it was easy to carry.
Merry Christmas to All!!!
Big Mahalo to the SO Crew for the warm welcome, warm Manapua and generous gilfts!
I drove to Courts and everyone was standing around and Tony was leaving. The surf was super small and nobody was going out. A friend of mine used to say 'No Dry Runs', which means go out no matter what. I took out my board and went out - it was FUN!!! First I caught up to Terry with the SUPups and Odie jumped on my board and we paddled around for a while. Then I went to Concessions there were a lot of waves with only Brad out.
Santa is probably very busy gathering gifts so let's give him a break, I know he'll come through with waves for us on Friday.
I joined the family for lunch at the Pineapple Room in Macy's.
Dora got the Kalbi with Fried rice, Doris ordered the Burger, I chose the Tempura Fish Sandwich and Dawn had the Kiddie Burger. We all enjoyed the food including the Foccacia bread with spicy aioli. Dawn however showed some displeasure with her dish. Looking around the room I spotted a SUP picture.
Check it out - Bruddah Ross!!!
Small-kine waves with smooth conditions.
We went out for dinner with my mother, today we tried Kikuya for the first time. Tony had recommended this place for a while but I never listened. Well let me tell you, I'm glad I tried it. We were ALL impressed with the value and quality.
It's located in Kalihi behind Diner's Drive inn.
Everybody gets the miso soup, tsukemono and tossed salad. Tempura was super crispy and not greasy and the Sashimi had four different kinds.
Tsukemono Salad Sashimi Spicy Tuna Roll Shrimp Tempura
Tonkatsu Ahi Teriyaki Chicken Teriyaki Miso Butterfish Short ribs
We all got the 3 item Combination dinner for $16.95 each, what a deal. The Spicy Tuna Roll was $5.00. Each dish above is 1 item in the combination. Well be back for sure.
I didn't go down today but I heard there was a couple of SUP guys 'dogging' everyone in the lineup. What is this place coming to?
The latest SUPs to hit the water. Stand-Up-Pups.
I got to surf for 1/2 hour before taking Dawn to the dentist. Good news - fun waves and ZERO cavities!
Well I finally finished setting up our Christmas lights at home - check it out.
OK, that's not really our house, it's a house in Niu Valley. They go 'All Out' on Halloween and Christmas with decorating their lawn - if you think it looks good in the picture, try seeing it in person - they could charge admission.
